EECP – Enhanced External Counter Pulsation
EECP Therapy (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation) is seen as a good alternative to treat coronary artery blockage which otherwise is subjected to Drugs, Angioplasty, Stent and Bypass Surgery. This is the ‘only’ non-invasive and non-pharmaceutical treatment approved by USFDA. During this treatment, BP like cuffs around the legs and buttocks are inflated and deflated at specific intervals between the heartbeats. A continuous ECG is used to set timing so that the cuffs inflate when heart is at rest, when it normally gets blood supply and oxygen. The cuffs deflate at the end of rest period just before their next heartbeat. A special sensor applied to the finger checks oxygen level in blood and monitors the pressure waves created by inflations and deflations. EECP uses patents own blood to stimulate new vessel formation around blocked arteries. EECP treatment triggers and accelerates collateral circulation and even makes it permanent. Collateral circulation is nothing but formation of tiny blood vessels which make it possible for blood to detour around blocked vessels or narrowed arteries. Clinical improvements can be observed between 15-20 sessions of the total 35 sessions of one hour each. The benefits are not limited to an increase in overall energy levels, decrease in angina or shortness of breath, reduced or stoppage of nitroglycerin medication.
EECP is a product of Vascomedical USA which has a patent on the timing mechanism of the system (Microsecond precise timing when the cuff inflates and deflates). Visit our partners page for more information.
